BE ON THE LOOKOUT FOR SCAMS THAT REQUEST YOU TO SEND MONEY OR GIFT CARDS TO FRIENDS/FAMILY. Scams are on the rise during times when people receive tax refunds and rebates.
Recently one of our residents was called and told her granddaughter was in trouble. She went as far as withdrawing $22,000 from the bank to send. Before doing so, she called and spoke with Sgt. Kenney who went over to her house and confirmed that her granddaughter was fine and that it was in fact a scam. Sgt. Kenney said they’ve seen an increase in these types of scams in Northampton as well.
